Asif Faruque

Head of Content of Level 39

Asif Faruque, Head of Content, is responsible for brand, messaging and communications at Level39, the world’s most connected technology community.

Asif began a journalism career in 2010 – covering local news and politics for a south London publication before moving into pharmaceuticals and transport news for a leading communications agency.

Prior to joining Level39, he covered the fintech and innovation beat of a global financial news service, producing video content and interviewing leaders of the world’s biggest financial institutions.

Asif holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Southampton and is qualified by the National Council for the Training of Journalists.

Ben Brabyn

Chief Executive of Level 39

Ben Brabyn, Head of Level39, launched his first digital business in 2001. The world’s first crowdfunding business, Bmycharity combined payments, social networking and data analytics, enabling 800,000 donors to deliver more than £50 million to UK charities. The business was sold to Help for Heroes, the leading charity for British service men and women.

Shortly afterwards, Ben survived a brain tumour while launching his next digital business, an e-commerce site, and also advised various energy, healthcare and social media businesses on strategy, finance and business development. After this, Ben worked for the UK government as of COO of UK Trade and Investment’s Venture Capital Unit, leading a team of VC and sector specialists. The unit established relationships between global investors and a wide range of UK entrepreneurial businesses.

Ben started his career with five years in the British Armed Forces as a Royal Marine Commando. After leaving the Royal Marines as Captain, he joined JP Morgan as an analyst working in New York, London and the Middle East.

Ben is an ambassador for the Royal Navy and Heropreneurs, and joined Level39 as Head in February 2016, supporting 200 high-growth technology companies who are transforming the security, productivity and reach of global financial services and other sectors. Ben has a Master’s degree in Philosophy and Literature from Edinburgh University and an MBA from Warwick Business School.

David Beer

Commercial Director of Fintech Alliance

David is working with the UK Government-backed FinTech Alliance. Helping to drive innovation and prosperity across the FinTech ecosystem by giving companies access to market, capital, talent, skills, regulation & policy, services, tools, intelligence, insights and the latest news that can drive change in their business. Peer to peer engagement at the highest level.

For the past fifteen years, David has worked and supported innovation and digital transformation – allowing companies to create new business models in the technology, FinTech, financial services, energy, sustainability and infrastructure. He has worked with companies of all sizes through the varying stages of their business evolution at a tactical and strategic level.

Duncan White

Head of Small Business Banking Portfolio Managed at HSBC UK

Duncan has led an international career in financial services spanning nearly 30 years and 8 Countries across Asia, North America, the Middle East and Europe. He has undertaken many roles, primarily in Commercial Banking but extending to Private Banking, Operations, Learning & Development and Retail Banking.

In his current role with HSBC UK, Duncan leads a team of Business Specialists who deliver exceptional customer service to a large, nationwide portfolio of SME businesses through our retail branches, and our telephony centres.

Throughout his career, Duncan has demonstrated passion for entrepreneurship, innovation and people and his current role is the perfect marriage of these elements.

Duncan is an alumnus of Loughborough University where he read Banking and Finance. He is married with two teenage sons and, in his spare time, enjoys cycling, golf (and other sports), reading and travelling.

Eric Van der Kleij

CEO of Frontier Network; C4DR.com

Eric is Chief Executive of one of London’s leading Blockchain, AI Sustainability and Fintech hubs - FrontierNetwork.com where the team have a strong focus on helping U.K. tech companies learn how to partner and sustainably expand to China, and vice-versa.

Eric is Chairman of security company Keybox.co - helping solve the worlds data breaches, and British built distributed ledger technology Activeledger.io. He is well known as a pioneering Fintech and Blockchain entrepreneur and having created some of the most influential ecosystems and hubs in the industry such as Level39 in Canary Wharf, and the Tech City (now Tech Nation) initiative for the U.K. Government (DIT/No10).

Eric also serves as a volunteer on Tech London Advocates Advisory Board.

Gilbert Wong

VP of AGTech Holdings Limited

Gilbert Wong is VP of AGTech Holdings Limited, an integrated technology company engaged in the lottery and mobile games market. As member of the Alibaba Group, AGTech is the exclusive lottery platform of Alibaba and Ant Financial Group.

Presently responsible for investments & external relations, Gilbert has been serving in the gaming and lottery industry for over 15 years, in addition to consultancy collaborations with major operators & regulators throughout Asia.

Gilbert is passionate about sports & technology, and is currently based in Hong Kong where AGTech is publicly listed.

Jayne Chan

Head of StartmeupHK, InvestHK

Jayne Chan is Head of StartmeupHK at InvestHK, the government department responsible for attracting and retaining Foreign Direct Investment into Hong Kong. StartmeupHK is InvestHK’s startup division established in 2014, aimed at attracting innovative startups, investors and other stakeholders to Hong Kong, provide a one-stop service platform to support these companies setting up in the city, promote Hong Kong as a premier startup destination and help build our ecosystem to transform the city into a global hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.

The StartmeupHK Festival is one of the key platforms organised by the team to attract international startup communities to Hong Kong, to share and network with local innovators, corporates and showcase the city’s success stories. The annual event in January 2018 attracted over 6,000 participants, and representation from over 40 countries, with events in key sectors where Hong Kong has distinct competitive advantages, namely financial technology (fintech), Internet of thing (IOT), health technology, retail technology and smart city.

Prior to joining InvestHK, Jayne was Executive Director at the HK chapter of TiE, a global non-profit network focused on fostering entrepreneurship in the markets in which they operate, and management roles at advertising & digital agencies, startup incubator, management consulting and manufacturing companies.

Lan Yang

Business Development Manager of Alibaba Cloud Europe

Lan Yang have more than 10 years of experience in the internet industry in China and experience of Cloud, Big Data, AI sectors of sales, marketing, innovation and networks.

Lan worked for Alibaba Cloud after 3 years for Alibaba group strategy development department. Right now, she is building a new business at UK and Nordic region for Alibaba Cloud. Before that, she worked in domestic China for 10 years, focus on government affairs for Alibaba group and KA business development for Alibaba cloud

Lan started the career after obtained the degree in Renmin University of China,have particular experience in the fields of: developing business in China, customer relationship management, digital transformation for retail and ecommerce.

Michael Zhu

Managing Partner of Gobi Partners

Mr. Zhu Lin has a professional experience of more than 16 years in venture capital industry, focusing on domains including deep technology,IoT, Enterprise SAAS, cloud service, innovative financial service, etc. He holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Automation from Donghua University in Shanghai.

Respectively in 2012 and 2015, Mr. Zhu Lin, as the leading partner, established Gobi Ying Zhi Fund and Gobi RMB Fund, and raised RMB 750 million. In 2016, Mr. Zhu Lin took part in the fundraising and led the management of Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund worth HK$ 1 billion.

Mr. Zhu Lin serves in the board of directors in multiple portfolio companies, and gets involved in and leads a variety of projects including Airwallex, GoGoVan, WaveOptics, Teambition, Cloudwise, PICOOC, CloudCare, etc. He is also the mentor of IBM Smart Camp - global competition for entrepreneurs, and International Youth Entrepreneurship Competition (China). Mr. Zhu Lin was selected by Forbes as one of the TOP 100 Chinese venture capitalists in 2018.

Susanne Chishti

CEO of FINTECH Circle

Susanne Chishti is the CEO of FINTECH Circle, Europe’s 1st Angel Network focused on fintech opportunities & Founder of the FINTECH Circle Institute, the leading fintech learning platform offering Innovation Workshops to C-level executives and online courses. She is also the Co-Editor of the Bestseller “The FINTECH Book” which has been translated into 10 languages and is sold across 107 countries, and The WealthTECH Book and The InsurTECH Book (published by WILEY in 2018).

Vikram Dhingra

Growth Investor of Unbound

Vikram is an investor at London-based growth stage (Series B onwards) venture firm, Unbound. Unbound provides long term capital to disruptive technology businesses across both developed and emerging markets. Vikram spends 100% of his time on fintech theme across both Europe and Asia.

Prior to this, Vikram spent 4 years at McKinsey & Company, where he served technology and telecom clients in South East and North Asia. He holds an M.B.A from University of Oxford and degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from University of Delhi.

Xuan Jin

Head of Alibaba Cloud UKI and Nordics

Xuan Jin is the head of Alibaba Cloud UKI and Nordics, responsible for business development and customer success of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence in the region. He joined Alibaba Cloud UK in 2017, leading the solutions architect team. Prior to Alibaba Cloud, Xuan was a tech lead in Cisco, after working in software engineering in IG and Oracle. Xuan received MSc in Electronic Engineering from Queen Mary University of London, and graduated from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
